Bridges
What are bridges?
A bridge is another way Dr. Monfredi can replace missing teeth. When just one tooth is missing, a bridge between your existing teeth is used to fill the space where your tooth once was. Bridges can be made of multiple materials to provide tooth-colored options and metal options. Bridges are made to be durable and long-lasting.
What is the process of getting a bridge?
First, Dr. Monfredi will create abutments out of your existing teeth, which is where the bridge will attach. The dentist will prepare the surrounding, support teeth so there will be room for this support system. A mold will then be taken of the area where the bridge will go which will be sent to a lab to have your bridge constructed. The bridge is made up of two crowns on either side that will be placed on the abutments created in your natural teeth. This system provides a natural looking solution to a missing tooth. While we wait for the lab to construct your permanent bridge, we will provide you with a temporary bridge to keep the abutments in tact and give you a more natural appearance.
How long does a bridge last?
Bridges can last anywhere from 5 to 15 years, a similar amount of time as a traditional crown. With good dental hygiene, a bridge will generally last 10 years, but can last longer than that. Make sure to schedule regular appointments with Dr. Monfredi to check the status and structural integrity of your bridge as it ages.
